The Dangers of Swimming, Hot Tubbing, and Hot Springs with your Jewelry:

Chlorine, Bromine, and the Sulfur in Hot Springs are enemies of your jewelry, especially gold and silver jewelry. These compounds have the ability to be “absorbed” into the metal and also can transport other impurities with them in the process.
These compounds can contribute to good prongs snapping off, strange, sudden breaks (usually in the heaviest portion of your jewelry), and difficult to remove discoloration.
Do not wear your jewelry in these situations. Do not wear your jewelry when using household cleansers or bleaches.
Believe it or not some people have used Hydrogen Peroxide or Drain Cleaners to remove the build up on their jewelry. This is HIGHLY discouraged
Many people bathe with their jewelry on, there is not enough chlorine in tap water to affect your jewelry. Even though we don’t recommend this, showering or bathing with your jewelry won’t hurt.
